William Murphy, born in Detroit in 1973, is a pastor, music director, and singer known for blending old-school gospel with urban contemporary Christian music. He gained recognition with his lead vocal on the gospel hit "Praise Is What I Do" from his 2005 debut album, All Day. Murphy, son of Bishop William H. Murphy, Jr., and grandson of Dr. William H. Murphy, Sr., has released successful albums like Demonstrate (2016), Settle Here (2019), and Worship & Justice (2022), earning Grammy nominations and Top Ten Gospel chart placements.

Raised in a religious family, Murphy pursued music and ministry, eventually becoming ordained as an elder at 23. After relocating to Atlanta in 2001, he served at New Birth Missionary Church as a worship minister.
