Roy Harper

Roy Harper, the idiosyncratic British singer/songwriter known for his deeply personal lyrics and unique guitar work, was born in Manchester, England in 1941. After a tumultuous youth that included stints in the Royal Air Force, a mental institution, and prison, Harper became a mainstay of London's folk music scene in the 1960s, performing alongside artists like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, and Nick Drake.

Harper's career took off in the late 1960s with the release of albums like "The Sophisticated Beggar" and "Come Out Fighting Genghis Smith." He gained further recognition through collaborations with artists like Pink Floyd's Jimmy Page and contributions to albums like Led Zeppelin III. Despite financial challenges and label changes over the years, Harper continued to release music, with highlights including "Stormcock" and "Bullinamingvase." In 2013, he made a triumphant return with "Man and Myth," his first album of new material in over a decade.
