Roger Whittaker, the African-born British pop singer known for his avuncular appearance, rich baritone, and whistling prowess, rose to worldwide fame in the 1970s with hits like "The Last Farewell." Despite becoming a fan favorite around the world, critical acclaim was limited, yet his self-written songs and interpretive singing style endeared him to audiences. Whittaker maintained a devoted fan base throughout his career, touring regularly until his retirement in 2013 to the South of France.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1936, Whittaker's musical journey began in his youth and led him to the U.K., where he gained recognition with hits like "Durham Town (The Leavin')" in the late '60s and '70s. His success extended to Germany, where he found a strong following as a Schlager singer, despite not speaking the language.
