Biography

Since their 1995 debut album, Soul Food, the Oblivians have been scaring country folks in Memphis with their sleazy raunch & roll sound, refusing to conform to the stereotype of three-piece bands as "wimpy" or "watered down." Drawing inspiration from the Ramones, the Sonics, and the Stooges, the Oblivians blend '60s garage punk with lo-fi equipment to create their own nostalgic sound. After releasing albums like Popular Favorites and collaborating with Mr. Quintron, the band went on hiatus as members pursued other projects, with Greg Oblivian forming the Reigning Sound and Eric Friedl running Goner Records. The Oblivians reunited in 2009 and released their album Desperation in 2013 on In the Red Records.

Following their breakup, Oblivians members pursued various projects, with Greg Oblivian fronting the Reigning Sound and collaborating with artists like the Detroit Cobras and Mary Weiss. Eric Friedl focused on Goner Records, working with acts like Jay Reatard. The Oblivians reunited in 2009 for shows with the Gories and released their album Desperation in 2013.
