Biography

Little Brother, a key player in the alternative rap resurgence of the new millennium, drew inspiration from iconic groups like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Roots. Comprised of MCs Phonte and Big Pooh, along with DJ/producer 9th Wonder, the group found commercial success with albums like The Minstrel Show and Getback. After a period of pursuing solo projects, Little Brother reunited in 2018 for a surprise performance and released their fifth album, May the Lord Watch, in 2019.

Formed at North Carolina Central University in Durham, Little Brother initially gained attention through internet downloads before signing with ABB Records in 2002. Their debut album, The Listening, was praised for 9th Wonder's production, leading to a major-label deal with Atlantic. After several albums and lineup changes, the group officially reactivated with Phonte and Pooh, releasing new music with a mix of past and new collaborators on May the Lord Watch.
