Biography

Josh Garrels, a singer/songwriter from South Bend, Indiana, has crafted a unique musical style blending pastoral indie folk with elements of hip-hop. After finding inspiration in East Coast hip hop and embracing the Christian faith in his early twenties, Garrels began releasing music on his own Small Voice Records starting with Over Oceans in 2006 and Jacaranda in 2008. His 2011 double album Love & War & the Sea in Between, influenced by his Portland, Oregon home, was a critical success and earned accolades from both Christian and secular media.

Garrels' music has been featured in various TV shows and he has seen commercial success with releases like Home in 2015, which charted on the Billboard Digital Albums and Billboard 200. Following the holiday-themed The Light Came Down in 2016, he co-produced Chrysaline with Isaac Wardell in 2019. After a year-long sabbatical on his Michigan farm in 2021, Garrels is currently working on new music.
