Biography

Z-Ro, born Joseph Wayne McVey, is a Houston rapper known for his unique blend of singing and rapping. He emerged in the Texas music scene in 1997 and collaborated with notable artists such as Scarface, Gucci Mane, Bun B, and Pimp C. Influenced by a mix of hardcore rap and soulful music, Z-Ro's style combines raw lyrics about love, relationships, and street life. He started his career with the Screwed Up Click and released his solo debut album, Look What You Did to Me, in 1998. Over the years, he continued to release albums annually, with notable releases like The Life of Joseph W. McVey and Let the Truth Be Told.

Signing with Rap-a-Lot Records, Z-Ro gained recognition for his "drug series" albums from 2008 to 2012, including Crack, which reached number 48 on the charts. His album Drankin' & Drivin' peaked in the Top Ten of the R&B chart in 2016. After releasing his 21st album, No Love Boulevard, in 2017, Z-Ro announced his retirement from music.
