Biography

Young the Giant's fifth studio album, "American Bollywood," is influenced by the ancient Sanskrit Hindu text, The Mahabharata. Front man Sameer Gadhia drew inspiration from Mumbai-based Amar Chitra Katha comic books, exploring religious legends and epic poems. The album is structured into four acts, blending modern indie-rock with traditional Indian instrumentation like sitar and tablas, reflecting Gadhia's parents' journey from India to America in 1984.

Through "American Bollywood," Young the Giant explores themes of cultural identity and assimilation, reflecting Gadhia's personal struggle growing up in Southern California. The album serves as a musical meditation on his family history, merging high art with popular appeal. Gadhia emphasizes the band's belief in youth, innocence, and optimism, capturing the beauty in their unique blend of ancient and modern influences.
