Biography
Formed in 2007 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Women is a psychedelic-tinged noise rock quartet comprised of Chris Reimer, Mike Wallace, and brothers Pat and Matt Flegel. Known for their innovative use of samplers and drum machines alongside traditional rock instruments, the group's sound has been likened to Caribou, Velvet Underground, No Age, and Abe Vigoda. Women released their self-titled debut album with Flemish Eye/Jagjaguwar in 2008, produced by labelmate Chad VanGaalen, followed by a North American and European tour. Returning to the studio with VanGaalen, they recorded their second album, Public Strain, released in 2010.
Tragically, on February 21, 2012, Chris Reimer passed away in his sleep at the age of 26, leaving a significant impact on the band and the music community. Women's unique blend of noise rock and psychedelic influences continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, cementing their place as pioneers in the genre.
