The Verve, a British band formed in Wigan in 1990, gained critical acclaim for their unique blend of '60s psychedelia and shoegaze aesthetics. Led by Richard Ashcroft, the band faced setbacks including legal issues and lineup changes before achieving international success with their 1997 hit "Bittersweet Symphony" from the album Urban Hymns.
Despite early indie chart success with albums like A Storm in Heaven (1993) and A Northern Soul (1995), the Verve struggled with commercial sales and internal conflicts. Urban Hymns propelled them to stardom, but ongoing legal battles and lineup changes ultimately led to the band's breakup in 1999. Members pursued solo projects, with intermittent reunions for tours and the release of Forth in 2008 before officially disbanding in 2010.
