Biography

Formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by Ray Manzarek, Jim Morrison, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger, The Doors were known for their unique sound characterized by Manzarek's electric organ work and Morrison's deep vocals. The band signed with Elektra Records in 1966 and released their debut album, The Doors, in 1967, which included the hit "Light My Fire." Despite early success, subsequent albums faced challenges in maintaining the same level of creativity and originality.

The Doors' career was marked by Morrison's charismatic yet increasingly unstable presence, culminating in his departure for Paris in 1971, where he passed away from a suspected drug overdose. The band attempted to continue without him but ultimately disbanded. Over the years, the band's music and Morrison's legacy continued to captivate audiences, leading to various reissues, biographies, and a feature film. The surviving members pursued individual musical endeavors, with Manzarek and Krieger later performing under different names. The band's 50th anniversary in 2017 was commemorated with reissues and new releases, showcasing their enduring influence on rock music.
