Biography

The Cardigans, a pop group from Sweden, gained popularity in the alternative music scene during the 1990s. Formed in October 1992 by guitarist Peter Svensson and bassist Magnus Sveningsson, the band initially consisted of vocalist Nina Persson, keyboard player Lars-Olof Johansson, and drummer Bengt Lagerberg. Their debut album, Emmerdale, released in May 1994, garnered attention in Sweden with the hit single "Rise & Shine."

The Cardigans' breakthrough came with their 1995 album, Life, which sold over one and a half million copies worldwide and achieved platinum status in Japan. Subsequent albums like First Band on the Moon (1996) and Gran Turismo (1998) showcased the band's evolving sound. After a hiatus, the group returned with Long Gone Before Daylight in 2003 and Super Extra Gravity in 2005.
