Biography
Trumpetist composer and producer Etienne Sevet mixes latin, caribbean, west african, jazz and hip hop, under his moniker The Bongo Hop (a name he draws from a childhood read - a leftfield comic book depicting the adventures of an african seaman. Picture Corto Maltese plunged in Amadou Balaké's Taximen craze).
Originally hailing from Bordeaux (FR) he grew up under the influence of the local guinean, senegalese & caribbean music scene. After several years in Cali Colombia working as a music journalist, he moved back to Europe, ending up in Lyon, where he met producer Patchworks (Voilaaa João Selva). Together they produced The Bongo Hop's first two records.
Praised for his versatile collaborations, including Grammy-nominee colombian icon Nidia Gongora (also known for her work with Quantic and Ondatrópica), Angola's prince of semba Paulo Flores, french creole MC Greg Frite from Triptik fame, danish hip hop crew Dafuniks, Haiti's Moonlight Benjamin , Lucas Santtana among others, his energetic 8-piece live band can be seen in some of the best stages in Europe and beyond - Musiques Métisses, Fusion Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Nuits d'Afrique Montreal, Cully Jazz Fest Switzerland, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, The Barbican, Ariano Folk Festival etc
