Biography

In the early to mid-'70s, Bobby DeBarge, Eddie Fluellen, Phillip Ingram, Jody Sims, and Gregory Williams formed the band White Heat in Ohio. The group later evolved into Hot-Ice before becoming Switch, achieving success with hits like "There'll Never Be" and "I Call Your Name." Switch disbanded after releasing their final album in 1984. Bobby DeBarge passed away in 1995, but the band's music continued to influence artists like De La Soul, Ne-Yo, and Erykah Badu. Members Ingram, Williams, and Fluellen reunited and toured in the 2000s, while bassist Tommy DeBarge passed away in 2021.

Throughout the '70s and '80s, the band members of White Heat, Hot-Ice, and eventually Switch navigated various record labels and lineup changes. Switch found success with their R&B hits before disbanding in the mid-'80s. The legacy of the band lives on through their sampled music in the works of artists like De La Soul, Ne-Yo, and Erykah Badu.
