Biography
Formed during New York's no wave scene, Swans, led by Michael Gira, gained a cult following with their abrasive, percussion-heavy sound and intense lyrics. The band's evolution saw shifts in lineup and musical approach, from the brutal sonic assault of their early releases to a more nuanced and melodic sound with the addition of vocalist/keyboardist Jarboe and bassist Algis Kizys.
After a hiatus, Swans returned in 2010 with a new lineup and released critically acclaimed albums, including 2014's To Be Kind featuring guest vocals from St. Vincent and Cold Specks. The band's success continued with The Glowing Man in 2016, showcasing their ambitious and innovative approach to music. Throughout their career, Swans pushed boundaries and defied expectations, solidifying their place as influential pioneers in the alternative music landscape.
