Biography

Super Cat, a key figure in the positive-consciousness dancehall movement, was born William Maragh in Kingston's Cockburn Pen. His early ventures in music led to his recording debut in 1981, eventually establishing his own label, Wild Apache Productions. Super Cat's move to New York City in pursuit of the American market resulted in a major-label deal with Columbia and the release of his acclaimed album Don Dada in 1992.

Following his success, Super Cat earned recognition as Source magazine's Dancehall Artist of the Year in 1993. Collaborations with fellow DJs, high-profile appearances, and a fusion of dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, and R&B culminated in albums like The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Crazy. His mainstream visibility increased with his feature on Sugar Ray's hit "Fly," leading to the compilation The Good, the Better, the Best of Super Cat in 1998.
