Biography
Starland Vocal Band, known for their hit song "Afternoon Delight," rose from the Washington, D.C., folk scene in the late '60s. Comprised of Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, the duo evolved into a group with the addition of Jon Carroll and Margot Chapman. Their debut album in 1976 led to chart-topping success and Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist.
Despite initial success with "Afternoon Delight," subsequent albums like 1977's Rear View Mirror and 1980's 4 x 4 failed to replicate their early achievements. The group disbanded after releasing their final album, with members going on to pursue solo careers. The Danoffs and Carroll-Chapman couple split after the group's decline, marking the end of Starland Vocal Band's reign in the music industry.
