Biography

Soulive is a funky instrumental trio known for their danceable, organ-driven groove jazz sound that blends soul-jazz with a modern hip-hop feel. The band, formed in Buffalo, New York in the late '90s, consists of brothers Alan and Neal Evans on drums and Hammond B-3 organ, and Eric Krasno on guitar. With influences ranging from James Brown to Grant Green, Soulive quickly gained recognition in the music scene, opening for artists like John Scofield and Maceo Parker before headlining their own shows and releasing their debut EP, Get Down, in 1999.

Following their EP, Soulive released several albums on labels like Blue Note and Concord, including Turn It Out (2000), Doin' Something (2001), and Breakout (2005). The band celebrated their tenth anniversary with Up Here in 2009, followed by a Beatles covers album, Rubber Soulive, in 2010. Over the years, they continued to tour extensively, releasing albums like Spark! (2012) and Cinematics, Vol. 1 (2018), showcasing their diverse musical influences and innovative approach to soul-jazz.
