Sólstafir, an Icelandic post-metal band blending progressive, black, and Viking metal influences, formed in the '90s and evolved from traditional black metal to an atmospheric post-metal sound with albums like Masterpiece of Bitterness (2005), Svartir Sandar (2011), and Endless Twilight of Codependent Love (2020). The trio of Aðalbjörn Tryggvason, Halldór Einarsson, and Guðmundur Óli Pálmason founded Sólstafir in 1995, later expanding to a quartet with the addition of guitarist Sæþór Maríus Sæþórsson. After several lineup changes, they signed with labels like Spinefarm and Season of Mist, releasing successful albums like Köld (2009), Svartir Sandar (2012), and Berdreyminn (2017).

In 2015, co-founder Pálmason departed, replaced by Hallgrímur Jón Hallgrímsson, and the band continued to explore their diverse musical influences. Their latest works, including Endless Twilight of Codependent Love (2020) and Hin Helga Kvöl (2024) under Century Media, showcase a return to their black metal origins while maintaining their signature atmospheric style. Sólstafir's evolution over the years has solidified their place in the metal scene, with a sound that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
