Joel Wästberg, known by his stage name sir Was, developed a diverse musical palette after a childhood immersed in music on the Swedish coast. Venturing from playing saxophone in his youth to studying jazz in southern Sweden and jamming with Sean Lennon in New York, Wästberg's musical journey led him to South Africa, where he delved into Pan-African rhythms. Inspired by his travels through Mozambique and Zimbabwe, Wästberg eventually embarked on creating his own music, resulting in his debut album "Digging a Tunnel," released in early 2017, showcasing his eclectic influences and unique sound. Incorporating a mix of instruments and genres, including bagpipes and electronica, along with his delicate vocals, the album reflects the diverse musical experiences that have shaped sir Was' artistic identity.
