Biography
Formed in 1967 by Robbie Van Leeuwen, Shocking Blue was a Dutch quartet that gained international fame with hits like “Venus” in 1970. Led by sultry singer Mariska Veres, the band's albums showcased progressive rock elements alongside pop singles, but none matched the success of their biggest hit. Veres departed in 1974, leading to the band's eventual disbandment. Van Leeuwen later joined the folk/jazz group Galaxy-Lin, while "Venus" remained a nostalgic favorite. Veres passed away in 2006, followed by bassist Klaasje Van der Wal in 2018.
