Scrim and his cousin Ruby, who grew up as white kids in black neighborhoods in New Orleans, formed the rap duo $uicideboy$ in 2014, drawing on their shared interests and close upbringing. Ruby, influenced by punk rock bands like the Misfits and Minor Threat, and Scrim, a DJ with roots in trap and hip hop, combined their talents to create a dark blend of horrorcore glitch-trap with occultish rhymes.
