Scott Joplin

Scott Joplin, known as the "King of Ragtime Writers," was a pioneering composer who transformed banjo piano playing into a beloved American art form. Born in Texas around 1867, Joplin taught himself piano as a child and later studied classical music in Sedalia, Missouri. His career took off in the 1890s, with hits like "Maple Leaf Rag" propelling him to fame.

Despite facing personal hardships and health struggles, Joplin continued to compose and collaborate with fellow musicians until his death in 1917.
