Italian dream-house DJ Robert Miles, born Roberto Concina in 1969, achieved unexpected fame in 1996 with his hit single "Children." Inspired by his father's photos from war-torn Yugoslavia, Miles crafted the piano-driven anthem that became a European sensation, peaking just shy of the American Top 20. Following his breakout success, Miles released albums like Dreamland and 23 AM, collaborating with notable artists such as Bill Laswell and Talvin Singh. Tragically, he passed away in 2017 at the age of 47 after battling cancer.
Miles' musical journey began in his teenage years, DJ'ing at local house parties in Italy before transitioning to hardcore trance sets in Venice clubs. In the late '80s, he adopted the moniker Robert Miles, symbolizing the path ahead. His debut single "Children," produced at a minimal cost, resonated globally and dominated charts across Europe. Despite his initial hit's monumental success, Miles continued to innovate with releases like Organik and collaborative projects until his untimely death.
