Born Alpharita Anderson in Cuba, she began her music career singing with the Soulettes and later formed the I-Threes with Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt to back Bob Marley. Following Bob's death in 1981, Rita released the solo album Who Feels It Knows It and continued to manage his legacy and business interests. She returned to solo recording in the late '80s and '90s with albums like Harambe and We Must Carry On, showcasing her danceable reggae style with spiritual messages.
