Biography

Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Remy Zero emerged as a moody and poetic alternative rock band amidst a trend of aggressive and juvenile American rock in the mid-‘90s. Comprised of childhood friends Cinjun Tate, Cedric Lemoyne, Jeffrey Cain, Shelby Tate, and Gregory Slay, the group initially gained attention after their demo caught the ear of community radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, CA, leading to a record deal with DGC/Geffen. Their self-titled debut album in 1996 showcased their sonic experimentation and songwriting, earning them respect from peers like Radiohead, who took them on tour.

Following their debut, Remy Zero's 1998 album, Villa Elaine, recorded at Sound City and mixed in London, saw the track "Prophecy" gain traction on modern-rock radio despite label setbacks. The band continued to tour extensively, releasing their final album, The Golden Hum, in 2001 on Elektra Records. The album's lead single, "Save Me," became the theme song for Smallville, catapulting Remy Zero to wider recognition with appearances on major TV shows and continued live performances until their disbandment in 2003.
