Ratboys, a Chicago-based band with over a decade of music-making under their belt, recently ventured to Seattle's Hall of Justice Recording Studio to collaborate with producer Chris Walla on their latest album, The Window. This marked the band's first time recording outside of Chicago, resulting in a fresh infusion of experimentation and preparation into their soft-hearted Midwestern indie rock sound with a hint of Americana flair. The sessions with Walla led to a sonic expansion for Ratboys, incorporating new elements like rototoms, talkboxes, and fiddles, resulting in their most diverse record yet, ranging from fuzzy power pop to warm country twang and mournful folk. The Window showcases Ratboys at their best, presenting a cohesive and expansive sound that captures the essence of the band's collective vision after years of evolution.
