Rachid Taha

Rachid Taha, the Algerian singer/songwriter, created a unique blend of rai and chaabi music with punk and rock influences in his adopted home of France. Born in Algeria in 1958, Taha moved to France at a young age and started his career in music by founding a nightclub that mixed Arabic pop with Western rock. He gained fame in the '80s with his band Carte de Sejour before launching a successful solo career with albums like Diwan and Tekitoi. Taha collaborated with artists such as Robert Plant and Patti Smith, performing worldwide and contributing music to various films, solidifying his status as a revolutionary music figure.
