Poison the Well, originally known as An Acre Lost, emerged from Florida's hardcore punk scene with a metalcore sound influenced by Slayer and Hatebreed. After attracting major label attention, the band briefly signed with Atlantic Records but maintained a strong following among hardcore punk fans, releasing albums like Versions in 2007 that showcased their musical evolution.
