Formed in the late '90s, Pig Destroyer quickly made a name for themselves in the extreme music scene with their noisy and unhinged take on grindcore. The East coast group gained prominence through relentless touring and releases with respected bands like Orchid, Converge, and Isis. Signing with Relapse Records in 2000, Pig Destroyer released their landmark album Prowler in the Yard in 2001, showcasing their intense focus and musical prowess. Over the years, the band underwent lineup changes and explored different styles, from grindcore to doom metal and experimental sound collages.

Pig Destroyer, hailing from Alexandria, Virginia, was founded in 1997 by drummer John Evans, guitarist Scott Hull, and vocalist J.R. Hayes, all seasoned musicians with roots in extreme bands. The band's early material reflected a staunchly anti-authoritarian political stance, and they quickly gained attention with their debut album Explosions in Ward 6 in 1998. With the addition of new members and stylistic shifts, Pig Destroyer continued to evolve their sound, incorporating elements of noise, sludge metal, and hardcore. Their sixth album, Head Cage, released in 2018, marked a new chapter for the band as they continued to push boundaries and defy expectations in their 20th year.
