Biography
Rooted in R&B and hip-hop, Phony Ppl are a stylistically adventurous band that formed in Brooklyn in 2008. Co-founded by vocalist Elbee Thrie and keyboardist Aja Grant, the band's core members also include bassist Bari Bass, guitarist Elijah Rawk, and drummer Matthew Byas. They gained attention with self-released projects like WTF Is Phonyland? and eventually signed with 300 Entertainment, leading to the Billboard-charting albums Yesterday's Tomorrow (2015), mō'zā-ik (2018), and Euphonyus (2022).
Phony Ppl's musical journey includes performances with artists like Erykah Badu and the Roots, as well as collaborations with Domo Genesis, Mac Miller, and Princess Nokia. Their singles "Fkn Around" featuring Megan Thee Stallion and "On My Shit" featuring Joey Bada$$ garnered significant support in 2020.
