Biography

Rooted in R&B and hip-hop, Phony Ppl are a stylistically adventurous band that formed in Brooklyn in 2008. Co-founded by vocalist Elbee Thrie and keyboardist Aja Grant, the band's core members also include bassist Bari Bass, guitarist Elijah Rawk, and drummer Matthew Byas. They gained attention with self-released projects like WTF Is Phonyland? and eventually signed with 300 Entertainment, leading to the Billboard-charting albums Yesterday's Tomorrow (2015), mō'zā-ik (2018), and Euphonyus (2022).

Phony Ppl's musical journey includes performances with artists like Erykah Badu and the Roots, as well as collaborations with Domo Genesis, Mac Miller, and Princess Nokia.
