Formed in Ateneo High School in Manila, Philippines, Parokya Ni Edgar is a pop-punk band known for their witty and often unconventional songwriting. The band, consisting of Chito Miranda, Vinci Montaner, Darius Semana, Gab CheeKee, Buwi Meneses, and Dindin Moreno, originally performed parodies of popular songs under the name Comic Relief. After gaining popularity at Club Dredd in Manila, they were signed to Universal and released their debut album, KHANGKHUNGKHERRNitZ, in 1996, which quickly achieved platinum status. Despite facing controversy over the track "Buloy," the band's humorous approach to music resonated with a wide audience, leading to further success with their second album, BURUGUDUYSTUNSTUGUDUNSTUY. Often compared to the iconic Filipino rock group Eraserheads, Parokya Ni Edgar received recognition at the MTV awards in New York City in 1999 and embarked on a U.S. tour in 2002.
