German guitarist Ottmar Liebert gained fame in the 1990s for his Spanish-influenced instrumental music, initially coined "Nouveau Flamenco." Liebert's career began with rock in the U.S. but evolved in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where his self-released album Marita: Shadows and Storms in 1989, later re-released as Nouveau Flamenco, went double-platinum and propelled him to new age stardom. Liebert's fusion of jazz, classical, pop, and Latin styles led to Grammy nominations and a prolific discography, including 2008's binaural surround sound album Up Close and 2015's genre-blending Waiting N Swan.

After successful releases like Winter Rose and One Guitar, Liebert's Grammy-nominated career continued with albums such as 2011's Santa Fe and 2014's three-oh-five. With a focus on diverse musical influences, Liebert's evolution as an artist is evident in his work, as seen in his 2012 release Dune and the anthology Bare Wood. Continuing to push boundaries, 2015's Waiting N Swan showcased Liebert's unique blend of tango, flamenco, and reggae rhythms, solidifying his status as a versatile and innovative musician.
