Biography
Oingo Boingo, often compared to Devo for their quirky new wave sound and eccentric stage presence, never achieved mainstream success like their counterparts. However, the band developed a devoted fan base in Los Angeles, where they originated in the '70s as a group assembled by movie director Richard Elfman. Led by Danny Elfman, the band transitioned from experimental beginnings to a more focused sound, releasing successful albums in the early '80s before ultimately disbanding in 1995.
Meanwhile, Danny Elfman's collaboration with director Tim Burton led to a prolific career as a film composer, contributing music to numerous Burton-directed movies and becoming a sought-after composer in Hollywood. With Elfman shifting his focus to film scoring, Oingo Boingo concluded with a farewell performance in 1995, leading to retrospective releases of the band's music and Elfman's film scores in the years following their disbandment.
