Biography
The breakup of Cream in 1968 led to the formation of bands like Blind Faith and Ginger Baker's Air Force, as well as the successful solo careers of Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce. Mountain emerged in 1969 as a successor band to Cream, spearheaded by Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi. Their debut album, "Mountain Climbing!" released in 1970, featured the hit single "Mississippi Queen" and showcased their blend of hard rock and blues, drawing comparisons to Cream. Mountain's live performances were even more powerful than their studio recordings, solidifying their reputation in the rock music world.
Mountain's success continued with their second album, "Nantucket Sleighride," and subsequent releases, maintaining their high-energy mix of hard rock and blues. However, by the early 1970s, the band faced challenges with declining album sales and critical reception. After Pappalardi's departure due to hearing concerns, Leslie West and Corky Laing collaborated with Jack Bruce to form West, Bruce & Laing. Despite lineup changes and intermittent breakups, Mountain reunited for various projects, including live shows and new albums, keeping their legacy alive in the rock music scene.
