Mother's Finest, a Georgia funk rock band, made a significant impact in the 1970s with their racially mixed lineup and energetic live performances. Led by vocalists Joyce Kennedy and Glenn Murdock, the band gained attention with their self-titled debut album in 1976 and the follow-up, Another Mother Further. Despite facing challenges, they continued to captivate audiences with hits like "Piece of the Rock" and "Hard Rock Lover." Mother's Finest became known as a powerhouse opening act, outshining headliners like Aerosmith and Ted Nugent.

As the 1980s approached, Mother's Finest faced difficulties transitioning and never fully received recognition in the rock music scene. Band members Moses Mo, Mike, and B.B. "Queen" Borden departed, while Kennedy, Murdock, and Jerry "Wyzard" Seay persevered. They experimented with different lineups and genres, eventually forming an all-African-American band in the '90s. Their 1992 album, Black Radio Won't Play This Record, showcased their raw and defiant sound, but failed to gain mainstream attention. Despite being overlooked by many, Mother's Finest's legacy lives on through compilations like Not Yer Mother's Finest: The Very Best of Mother's Finest, released in 1997.
