Mory Kanté

Mory Kanté, born in 1951 in Guinea, is renowned for his blend of traditional Mandinka music with modern influences. He began his musical journey at a young age, mastering the kora and tribal lore in Mali before joining the Rail Band and later forming Les Milieus Branches in Cote D'Ivoire. Kanté's innovative approach, incorporating American soul and R&B elements, laid the groundwork for cross-cultural fusions in Mandinka music. His move to Paris in 1982 propelled him to international success, with hits like "Ye Ke Ye Ke" in 1988 and albums such as Touma in 1990 and Nongo Village in 1993.

Throughout his career, Mory Kanté has been a trailblazer in bridging traditional West African music with contemporary styles, earning acclaim both in Africa and Europe.
