Moby Grape

Moby Grape, a versatile '60s San Francisco band, blended folk, blues, country, and rock & roll with psychedelic elements on their 1967 debut LP. Despite personal and management issues, subsequent albums showcased the band's talent, with standout tracks like "Omaha" and "Sittin' by the Window." However, over-hype from Columbia Records and disappointing follow-up albums led to the band's eventual breakup by the end of the '60s.

Formed by manager Matthew Katz and including members from various musical backgrounds, Moby Grape quickly gelled, with each member contributing to songwriting on their self-titled debut. The band's second album, Wow, fell short of expectations, and internal conflicts led to the departure of Skip Spence and Bob Mosley. Although they released more albums in the late '60s, Moby Grape struggled to recapture their early success and faced ongoing challenges due to ownership issues of their band name.
