Biography

Miwa, a Japanese singer-songwriter born in 1990 in Hayama, Kanagawa, draws inspiration from Western artists such as Carole King and Joni Mitchell. Introduced to music at a young age through her father's influence, she began learning guitar in high school and started composing her own songs by the age of 15. Despite her high school's restrictions on student employment, Miwa worked part-time to afford a Gibson guitar and performed at small venues in Tokyo and Okinawa, self-publishing two singles before signing with Sony Music Entertainment Japan in her third year of high school.

Making her major label debut in 2010 while studying at Keio University, Miwa gained recognition with her single 'Don't Cry Anymore,' which reached the top 20 on the Oricon Singles Chart. Her music was further popularized through television, as her third single 'Change' was featured in the anime 'Bleach.' In 2011, her debut album 'Guitarissimo' topped the Oricon album chart, leading to a successful career that includes several top-five albums like 'Guitarium' (2012), 'Delight' (2013), 'Oneness' (2015), and 'Splash World' (2017).
