Mission of Burma, a standout punk-inspired band from Boston in the early '80s, set a standard for excellence with their gripping songs and ferocious intensity. Guitarist Roger Miller, bassist Clint Conley, drummer Peter Prescott, and tape head Martin Swope galvanized the city's alternative rock scene before unexpectedly reuniting in 2002. Their music, reminiscent of early-'80s post-punk with jittery rhythms and declamatory vocals, showcased influences from bands like Gang of Four and the Stooges, characterized by extreme volume and aural chaos that left audiences both bruised and exhilarated.

After a brief but impactful existence, Mission of Burma disbanded in 1983 due to the toll of their intense sound on band members, particularly Miller's tinnitus. However, the band reunited in 2002 for a series of successful live shows and recording projects, including the critically acclaimed albums Onoffon, The Obliterati, The Sound the Speed the Light, and Unsound. Their unexpected return to the music scene was met with enthusiasm, solidifying their legacy as pioneers of the post-punk genre.
