Minor Threat, led by vocalist Ian MacKaye, was a defining force in Washington, D.C.'s hardcore punk scene of the early '80s. The band's fiercely independent and sober stance, rejecting drugs and alcohol, set the tone for the straight-edge movement. With fast, sharp, and politically charged songs, Minor Threat released two EPs, an album, and singles that resonated in the American punk underground, paving the way for a clean-living punk lifestyle. Following their breakup, MacKaye went on to form Fugazi, a prominent indie rock band of the late '80s and '90s.

Ian MacKaye's journey from his first band, the Teen Idles, to the formation of Minor Threat marked a pivotal moment in punk rock history. With the establishment of Dischord record label, MacKaye's musical endeavors continued to shape the underground scene. Minor Threat's lineup changes, music releases, and eventual disbandment in 1983 reflected the band's short but impactful legacy.
