Biography
Michael Bloomfield, a pioneering white blues guitarist, rose to fame with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band before collaborating with Bob Dylan and pursuing a solo career. Born in 1943 in Chicago, Bloomfield's early exposure to music led him to become a prominent figure in the city's blues scene. His work with the Butterfield band, Dylan, and the Electric Flag showcased his innovative guitar skills and diverse influences, blending blues, jazz, and rock.
Despite critical acclaim and commercial success, Bloomfield struggled with fame, drug addiction, and personal demons throughout the '70s. He continued to record and perform sporadically, collaborating with various artists and experimenting with acoustic styles. Tragically, Bloomfield's life was cut short in 1981 at the age of 37 due to a drug overdose, leaving behind a legacy as a virtuoso guitarist and influential figure in the blues and rock music scenes.
