Merry Clayton

Merry Clayton, best known for her powerful vocals on the Rolling Stones' hit "Gimme Shelter," has had a successful career as a backup singer, solo artist, and actress. Raised in a musically inclined family in New Orleans, Clayton began singing at a young age and quickly made a name for herself in the music industry. Her work includes collaborations with iconic artists like Ray Charles, Carole King, and Linda Ronstadt, as well as memorable performances on classic albums such as the Rolling Stones' "Let It Bleed" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Second Helping."

Despite facing challenges like a car accident that led to the amputation of her legs, Clayton persevered and made a triumphant return to music with her 2021 album "Beautiful Scars." Co-produced by Lou Adler and Terry Young, the album features contributions from acclaimed songwriters like Diane Warren and Chris Martin of Coldplay, showcasing Clayton's enduring talent and resilience in the face of adversity.
