Haydée Mercedes Sosa (9 July 1935 – 4 October 2009) was an Argentine singer known as La Negra. She was a prominent figure in Latin American folklore music and a co-founder of the "Movimiento del Nuevo Cancionero." Sosa, who preferred to be called a "cantora," explored various genres including tango, rock, and pop. Her notable albums include "Canciones con fundamento," "Homenaje a Violeta Parra," and the double album "Cantora," where she collaborated on 34 songs. Throughout her career, Sosa received six Latin Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and two posthumous awards in 2009 and 2011.

Recognized as the "voice of America Latina," Haydée Mercedes Sosa captivated audiences worldwide with her interpretations of songs by Latin American composers. She performed at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Théâtre Mogador in Paris, and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.
