Biography
Meat Beat Manifesto, led by co-founder Jack Dangers, is a pioneering electronic group known for their sample-heavy blend of breakbeats, dub basslines, and influences from various genres like hip-hop and musique concrète. Formed in 1987, they released their debut album, Storm the Studio, in 1989, which established them as influencers in big beat, jungle, and trip-hop. Over the years, they continued to innovate with albums like 1998's Actual Sounds + Voices and 2005's At the Center, exploring jazz fusion elements and even touching on the emerging dubstep sound with 2008's Autoimmune. Their latest works include remixes for artists like Mark Stewart and Stephen Mallinder, as well as collaborations such as the 2023 EP Man from Mantis with longtime associate DHS.
Jack Dangers, born John Corrigan in 1967, formed Meat Beat Manifesto with Jonny Stephens in 1987, initially as a side project. Their early singles "I Got the Fear" and "Strap Down" showcased their dense, danceable sound, which evolved into their debut album, Storm the Studio. Moving away from their industrial label, they ventured into techno territory with albums like 1992's Satyricon, influencing genres like trip-hop and drum'n'bass. Dangers also explored solo projects and collaborations, delving into experimental electronica and jazz with releases like 2005's At the Center and the Tino's Breaks series. Their discography continued to expand with releases like 2019's Opaque Couché and the 2023 EP Man from Mantis, showcasing their enduring impact on the electronic music scene.
