The band, led by guitarist David Roback and vocalist Hope Sandoval, achieved recognition with their hit song "Fade into You" in 1993. After releasing their fourth album, Seasons of Your Day, in 2013, the band went on hiatus, returning with the Still EP in 2018.

Roback, known for his work with Opal and the Rain Parade, discovered Sandoval through a tape she made with the duo Going Home. Mazzy Star's debut album, She Hangs Brightly, released in 1990, showcased their signature sound. Over the years, the band evolved, releasing albums like So Tonight That I Might See and Among My Swan. Despite hiatuses and individual projects, Mazzy Star continued to captivate audiences with their ethereal music, until Roback's passing in 2020.
