Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, a Philadelphia soul-influenced R&B group, gained popularity in the late '70s and '80s for their soulful sound and charismatic frontman, Frankie Beverly. Despite not having many mainstream hits, the band amassed a devoted following within the soul and urban contemporary music scenes, with several gold albums to their name. Beverly, born Howard Beverly, founded the band in 1970 after a journey through various vocal groups, eventually landing a deal with Capitol Records in 1976 and adopting the name Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly.

Maze's debut album in 1977 marked the beginning of their success, with hits like "Happy Feelin's" and "Lady of Magic" solidifying their place in the R&B music landscape. Over the years, the band underwent lineup changes but always stayed true to Beverly's vision, delivering memorable live performances and earning critical acclaim. Despite a shift to Warner Bros. in 1989 and a decline in commercial success, Maze's influence continued to be felt, particularly in the rap world where their music was heavily sampled. Beverly passed away in 2024, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music industry.
