East coast rapper Max B, born Charly Wingate in 1978, had a tumultuous rise in the mid-2000s, joining Jim Jones' Byrd Gang crew in 2006 and releasing mixtapes like Million Dollar Baby. However, a falling out with Jones led to Max B's departure in 2008, and he was sentenced to 75 years in prison for a murder charge in 2009. Despite his incarceration, he continued to release music, including collaborations with French Montana on the Coke Wave series.
Raised in a struggling family in NYC, Max B turned to crime early on and served time for robbery from 1997 to 2005. Upon release, he pursued a rap career, adopting the stage name "Max B" after combining his favorite rappers' nicknames. Despite his legal troubles and public feuds, Max B maintained a prolific output of mixtapes and features while in prison. In 2016, he accepted a plea deal reducing his sentence, offering a chance for parole by 2025.
