Trinidadian-born Devon Martin began singing in church at age 7 before migrating to the United States at 13. By 16, he was performing at block parties and talent shows, opening for the likes of Wu-Tang Clan and Sean Paul. In 2003, he recorded his first professional track, "Tiger Bone," at Dainjamentalz studio in New York, launching his career as Lyrikal.
