Biography

Luscious Jackson, a unique blend of alternative rock and hip-hop, emerged in the 1990s from New York's bohemian scene. Mixing Spanish guitars, jazzy keyboards, funky beats, and breathy vocals, the band's eclectic sound drew comparisons to the Beastie Boys. After releasing their debut EP on Grand Royal in 1992, Luscious Jackson transitioned to a major label, achieving a Top 40 hit in 1996 with "Naked Eye." Despite disbanding after 1999's Electric Honey, the group reunited in the 2010s, releasing albums like Magic Hour and Baby DJ.

Formed by Kate Schellenbach, Jill Cunniff, and Gabby Glaser in the early '80s New York post-punk scene, Luscious Jackson's journey began with their debut EP, In Search of Manny, in 1992. Their full-length album Natural Ingredients, released in 1994, saw success with the track "Citysong" and tours with R.E.M. Following their second album Fever In Fever Out in 1996, the band continued to evolve, releasing albums and side projects before disbanding briefly. Reuniting in the 2010s, Luscious Jackson continued to create music and engage in various artistic endeavors.
